Edward Echwalu is a freelance photojournalist with REUTERS, The Observer and IRIN Humanitarian News Agency.
As an undergraduate student, he co-founded The Ivory Post, an online university news website. Upon completion of his bachelors’ degree in 2008, he joined The Daily Monitor before crossing over to The Observer in August 2008.
In February 2009 he started contributing photos to Reuters News Agency through “Your View”. Since then, he has been working for Reuters as a stringer photographer based in Uganda.
He was 1st Runner-Up, CNN Multichoice African Journalist of the Year Awards 2012 (Muhammed Amin Photographic Award)
He is a beneficiary of the Cranimer Mugerwa Photojournalism Award 2009 and a top 10 finalist in the Africa Caribbean Pacific (ACP) Courier Photo Competition 2010.
